The Illinois 60 by 25 Network Organizers are pleased to introduce you to the inaugural Student Advisory Council. Council members are from Illinois 60 by 25 Network Leadership Communities and bring diverse perspectives. We look forward to working with these outstanding young people to better understand how students across the state experience various initiatives that the Network supports, and understand what kinds of supports would be helpful to students as they navigate the education system.
Hoopeston/HASD #11 Class of 2022 As a section leader in my school choir, I have invested hours in getting together students to practice outside of school settings in order to achieve excellence. Additionally, I represented local music leadership in the Illinois District 3 Choir.
Mendota Township High School Class of 2023 I have demonstrated leadership in my school by helping new students feel welcome. For example, I was more than happy to be partners with the new girl on our volleyball team who didn't speak English. I did my best to teach her what to do when she didn't understand.
Rockford Auburn High School Class of 2022 I have been appointed to work with the mayor through the Mayor and Chairman’s Youth Leadership Council (MYAC) in developing an anti-vaping/cigarette ordinance, a campaign for National Prevention Week, and other activities promoting community health.
East Saint Louis Sr. High School Class of 2021 I am a co-founder and strong member of L.O.V.E. (Leaving Our Voices Everywhere), a youth-led organization focused on elevating youth voice to the decision making bodies of our community. I received the 2019 Illinois Governor's Volunteer Service Award.
Rockford Auburn High School Class of 2022 I serve on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council as well as volunteering each month, such as working with the Salvation Army to help hand out food, and decorating downtown for Christmas.
George Westinghouse College Prep Class of 2023 I have participated in leadership programs including the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. In my classes, I'm usually the one taking charge and helping my peers.
Lindblom Math/Science Academy Class of 2021 I co-founded an event in Englewood called 'Community Day,' where I provide the less fortunate with toiletries, a hot meal, clothing, and shoes so they have all the basic necessities that they need to live. This was my way of stepping up to show them that someone cares.
Mendota Township High School Class of 2023 I led a group project on sexual abuse and contacted the local charity Freedom House. They sent flyers to give out in class, and I also had them hung around the building. I asked my school resource officer to be a guest speaker about the legal process for sexual abuse. My presentation won $100 to donate to Freedom House.
Wheeling High School Class of 2023 I am in Student Council and NJROTC, so I have to be a leader and I help freshman learn their basic skills. Since being in NJROTC, I am more open now in my classes and usually take the lead in projects or groups.
Bloomington High School Class of 2023 Recently, I co-led an initiative to create a Bloomington chapter of Diversify Our Narrative, which is focused on implementing anti-racist media into our schools to ensure inclusivity and educate the student body on the struggles of marginalized groups.
Steinmetz High School Class of 2021 I helped co-found my school's theater club and helped with the production of a play. I am Secretary of the National Honor Society this year. I wanted to put myself up to the challenge of planning activities for our club during this pandemic.
Evanston Township High School Class of 2022 I participate in Emerge, a club where students find community issues (such as affordable housing, education, environment, etc) and work together to find community partners and create projects to address these issues.
North Chicago Community High School Class of 2023 I will be the first in my family to graduate high school. I’m currently learning Japanese, playing the trumpet, and have joined STEM programs outside of school. I want to become a surgeon and show young kids who come from a similar background as me that they can become one, too.
